2016-2017 All-State High School Orchestras

  • Congratulations to Taewon Lee on his acceptance into All-State High School Orchestras!
  • On Oct. 29, 2016, 400 violinists were selected from 25 regions across the state of Texas to record their All-State excerpts. These 625 violinists are the highest-ranking violinists from their respective 25 regions. From these 625 tapes, only 100 violinists are chosen to participate in the All-State High School Orchestras that will be featured at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention in February 2017.
  • Taewon ranked 83rd among 625 violinists, and was accepted.

Congratulations to Taewon Lee!

  • Taewon is recipient of the Martin Luther King Drum Major Service Award.
  • Taewon snagged the BRONZE MEDAL of the PRESIDENT’S VOLUNTEER SERVICE AWARD for 107.5 hours in a 12-month period.  Taewon also received a certificate and letter of recognition from President Barack Obama.
  • On Oct. 28, 2016, Taewon was among 625 candidates who auditioned for the Texas All-State Orchestra, ranked 83rd and was accepted.
  • Taewon snagged $70 cash prize and 1st prize in the Grade 11 – 12 Category of the 2016 TMTA/STATE Publication Essay Contest.   His essay was published in the Texas Music Teachers Association magazine as well as on the Website at www.tmta.org.
  • In Feb. 6, 2016, Taewon competed at the UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest and garnered a Division 1.  Congratulations to Taewon for being successfully certified to compete on both SOLO & ENSEMBLE at the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest during Memorial Weekend, 2016 in Austin, Texas.
  • On May 29, 2016, Taewon participated at the Texas STATE Solo and Ensemble Contest and garnered a Division 1 rating for his SOLO.
  • Taewon was also accepted into the All-Region 24 Orchestras – Concert and Chamber Orchestras – for six consecutive years.
  • On Oct. 17, 2015, Taewon competed at All-Region 24 Region Orchestra, ranked 15th and was accepted.
  • On Oct. 29, 2016, Taewon competed at the All-Region 2 Region Orchestra – Symphony Orchestra, ranked 5th and was accepted.

  • In 2016, Chelsea snagged her first GOLD MEDAL of the PRESIDENT’S VOLUNTEER SERVICE AWARD for 104 hours in a 12-month period.  Chelsea also received a certificate and letter of recognition from President Barack Obama.
  • On Jan. 16, 2017, Chelsea is a recipient of the Martin Luther King Drum Major Service Award.
  • During National Healthcare Volunteer Week (April 23 – 29, 2017), Chelsea snagged her second GOLD MEDAL of the PRESIDENT’S VOLUNTEER SERVICE AWARD for 102 hours in a 12-month period.  Chelsea also received a certificate and letter of recognition from former President Barack Obama.
  • In 2016, Chelsea was certified by Lewisville ISD for the National Prudential Spirit Community Award.  Even though Chelsea was not elected to represent Texas, Chelsea made it to the top 10% of Texans in consideration for the National Prudential Spirit Community Award.
  • On March 15, 2018, Chelsea snagged the Daily Points Of Light Award.
  • During National Healthcare Volunteer Week (April 15 – 21, 2018), Chelsea snagged her third GOLD MEDAL of the PRESIDENT’S VOLUNTEER SERVICE AWARD for 113 hours in a 12-month period.  Chelsea also received a certificate and letter of recognition from former President Donald Trump.
  • Chelsea (10th grade – Flower Mound School) sat for the STATE Theory Tests four years in a row.  Chelsea scored:
    • 93.5% in 2014

  • Congratulations to Alexa on her acceptance into the University Of North Texas with a scholarship!  Alexa has been accepted into tBachelor of Music in Theory program as well as Bachelor of Arts in Composition program.
  • Alexa (11th grade – Lewisville High School) sat for the STATE Theory Tests three years in a row.  Alexa scored:

  • Alexa has performed live Christmas music at Grapevine Mills for three consecutive years in a row to raise money for orphans for the Buckner International Orphan Care.   Alexa helped raise $4311.50 in 2010, $6456.03 in 2011 and $6769.50 in 2012 for Buckner International.
  • Alexa participated in the fundraising campaign during the Christmas season of 2013 and raised $8,000 for the victims in the Philippines, $1800 for the 1000 homeless children in the DFW area via Captain Hope’s Kids and $200 for the orphans under the care of Buckner International Orphan Care.
  • On Dec. 21, 2012, Alexa performed at the Christmas Extravaganza for The Evergreen (Retirement Home) of Vista Ridge in Lewisville, Texas.

  • In March 2015, Swathi competed at the UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest and garnered TWO Division 1’s.  Congratulations to Swathi for being successfully certified to compete on both violin & viola at the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest during Memorial Weekend, 2015 in Austin, Texas.
  • In February 2014, Swathi (11th grade – Flower Mound High School) competed at the UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest and garnered a Division 1.  Congratulations to Swathi for being successfully certified to compete at the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest during Memorial Weekend, 2013 in Austin, Texas.  Swathi participated at the Texas STATE Solo and Ensemble Contest and garnered a Division 3 rating for her SOLO and a Division 2 rating for her ENSEMBLE.

  • Hundreds of orchestra students audition for entry into the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra (GDYO) every year. Auditions for acceptance were held in March and April 2012. GDYO accepts only the best orchestra students from the North Texas and the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex areas. Kelby has been accepted into Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra for the third consecutive year.
  • Kelby was also accepted into the All-Region 24 Orchestras – Concert and Philharmonic Orchestras – for four consecutive years.

  • On April 10, 2010 the Marcus High School Orchestra traveled to San Francisco to participate at the Heritage Music Festival in conjuction with its annual Orchestra Spring Trip.  The festival took place at Foothill Jr. College in Los Altos Hills.
  • At the festival, Alex was the only violinist to be chosen among nearly eight hundred of instrumentalists to receive its highly prestigious “Maestro Award” for his exceptional leadership qualities and musicianship. Alex snagged the top individual award at the festival

2006-2007 All-State High School Orchestras

  • Congratulations to Kristin Lin on her acceptance into All-State High School Orchestras!
  • On Oct. 28, 2006, 400 violinists were selected from 25 regions across the state of Texas to record their All-State excerpts. These 400 violinists are the highest-ranking violinists from their respective 25 regions. From these 400 tapes, only 100 violinists are chosen to participate in the All-State High School Orchestras that will be featured at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention in February 2007.
  • Kristin ranked 79th among 400 violinists, and was accepted.
